Destination Harstad official travel guide
Official touristinformation for: Harstad, Kvæfjord, Bjarkøy, Tjeldsund, Skånland.
Out on the Trondenes Peninsula, visitors can retrace history through viking Tore Hund’s activities in the early 11th century and the Trondenes Church dating from the 13th century before visiting the Adolf Gun, the world’s largest land-based gun dating from World War II. At the Trondenes Historical Centre the entire history is summarised through a multimedia show, exhibitions, sounds and smell – absolutely worth a visit.
Old trading posts like Røkenes Manor and Sandtorgholmen Hotel take visitors back in time with their many hundred year old buildings, fantastic culinary experiences and genuine hospitality.
Outside Harstad, you will discover a large archipelago containing islands, islets and rocks, both large and small. Take a boat out to exciting places to stay, fish in the crystal clear sea and bathe on white sandy beaches. The surrounding region also offers wonderful small cabins, private accommodation, the world’s northernmost horticultural school, Rå Upper Secondary School, the Sami settlement Vilgesvarrè, and boat hire.
Come and enjoy the wildlife around the Wharf, hire a boat, visit the exhibitions and our cafè.
